Eco-Comedy Series "Boomerangst" in Development
Boomerangst is an independent, eco-comedy, television series: combining the relationship comedy of FRIENDS with the beautiful location, backdrops, environmental threats, and Indigenous cultural perspectives of YELLOWSTONE. This series is passionately driven by the very real, and polarizing, conflict from open pit mining encroaching on the residents of Kamloops, in British Columbia, Canada. Currently in development by Mastermind Studios, the screenplay for this series is written by Dr. George M. Johnson, Professor of creative writing at Thompson Rivers University.

BOOMERANGST: LOGLINE
RETIREMENT REBELLION. WITH ROCK MUSIC.
Former high school rockers form a boomer retirement commune to get back to the garden of their youthful ideals. They dig up more dirt than they can handle before uniting and rocking out against threats to their paradise, notably a mining company hell-bent on undermining their land.
Boomerangst: PILOT PLOT SYNOPSIS
60-year-old JAMES BROWN (not that one)
impulsively quits his job as a used truck salesman. After his wife CYNTHIA throws him out for again failing to consult, he takes a quirky route to win back her love by starting a retirement commune. He wants to recover their youthful ideals of living off the land in peace, harmony and general grooviness .
At his 40th high school reunion he tries to enlist former classmates. When they scoff, he impulsively offers them joint ownership in the remote Toad Valley Ranch that he has inherited.
When his friends arrive, they realize why. The place is a dump. As they struggle to survive, secrets surface. All belonged to a school rock band, Intensive Care, that disbanded and left bitterness. As tensions mount they suffer several crises: a mining exec, MARA TRAVESTA, arrives with a 30-day offer from Comet Aggregates Corps Kinborne (C.A.C.K.) to purchase the ranch, crucial to their proposed mine site. She hints that the land could be expropriated after this anyway. James reacts with hostility and denial. A plague of toads descends, a flash flood strikes, and a lightning storm kills their power. That night, a stranger mistakenly slips into one member, REX ESUS’S bed. KISS is the daughter he didn't know he had with FANTASIA, another band member.
During this happy reunion, Travesta returns, increasing the offer – and the threat. The episode closes with the group going on a manhunt for member and marketing guru DAVE (Dakota House - North of 60). They suspect him of selling out since he has been making mysterious phone calls from the hilltop (the only place where there is cell reception) in this unlikely paradise.

Boomerangst: Market Potential
BOOM!
Boomerangst will rivet boomers, who are underrepresented in film, but will also appeal to generations following, who may be critical of this bloated generation. Boomerangst recently won Best TV Script in the Wiki Screenplay Contest, and the coverage ranked Marketplace Potential as 9/10, the analyst stating, “Given the strength and originality of the concept, as well as the wholesome quality of the script as a whole, the reader doesn’t doubt that a show with this script would be able to garner a loyal audience. Besides, a title like that will surely pique people’s curiosity and help to attract a viewership.” The judges commented that, “your script delighted both the reader-analysts and judges.”
Boomerangst is high concept, since most people want the chance to live out their youthful ideals, and it tackles critical environmental issues. It's quirky, it's fun, it's inspiring! What's not to like?
